My Story

My story begins in Leicester, UK,
Born 1990 and studied Music Production after I left school for 3 years, I do still DJ from time to time and still love to make music.

During my college time and music being plan A, my plan B was working in a call centre for a retail company as their first line technical support for the retail stores.
I was writing the training documents and training the team even though my official status was "New and Developing" 😂

I wanted to progress and I was intrigued by the network side of IT. I tried growing within the company but was told to do my CCNA. I did and I paid for the courses myself and even took time off work to travel and study. I passed and the guy who asked me to do this left the company and also no position was there anymore. 😡

I saw a position as a SQL DBA Junior level, the salary was amazing compared to everything else within the company and I thought, well if I can learn about networks why can't I learn SQL DBs,

With no experience just a proven passion to learn I was given the position and for 8 LONG months I sat in the office watching training videos for 8 hours a day! This took its toll on me socially and I even had so much caffeine I would watch them 1.5X speed 😂

After 2 years working as a Junior SQL DBA my colleagues were pushing for my promotion which was not in sight. Other companies were nipping away at me offering a lot more money and status. I then after travelling to Bali ended up wanting to move to Amsterdam for the summer. While the random side step happened I found a company looking for a SQL DBA with 5 years experience. I only had 2 but my actual hands on experience and knowledge and proven knowledge through tests offline and onsite was enough for them to also give me an opportunity. I grew in this position as the only DBA within the company making the decisions which took its time to get used too.
After 4 years in this position and everything running smoothly day to day and nothing exciting happening I found my next challenge.

I joined SBP Schuberg Philis, Another Company in Amsterdam but a very good company with colleagues with a tremendous amount of knowledge. It really takes you back and makes you wonder if you fit in with the people working there. It took me a good year but I have proven to myself I really make an impact and DO fit within the company 💓

That's where we are today and within SBP I was able to work on Azure and grow my knowledge in many different directions other than SQL, so I hope you enjoy the posts to follow

🤔 inspired?
